SynopsisIn 1841, Eugène Sue, a dandy and conservative writer, found himself forced to write a serial novel to earn money. Against all expectations, the first deliveries of his Mysteries of Paris were a phenomenal success. Struggling to supply the following episodes, Eugene disguises himself as a craftsman in order to explore Paris slums. There, he discovered with emotion the reality of the people, and allowed himself to be won over to the republican cause, until, after the revolution of 1848, he became one of the representatives of the nascent socialist movement.
